Short and sweet info on fertilizer. The mini-lesson about which nutrients to what is useful and the material about when to apply is good. But I’m disappointed that there was no encourgement to seek out organic fertilizers. I realize this was produced by Rainbird, whose goal it is to sell us irrigation products for our lawns, but we’re in serious drought mode in the western US and even the usually moist East Coast. I also realize there’ll be a financial strain on these companies if we adopt a postage stamp lawn, or even lawnless landscape approach, but where will the water come from for this often unnecessary frill?
Lawns need water, lawns need lots of fertilizer. Commercial fertilizer is mostly petroleum based. How about going organic or reducing our dependence of fossil fuels for the benefit of the environment?
I’ll admit that a lawn is an appropriate surface for play, but I can’t think of another reason to plant one. And if you do have a lawn, there’s a responsibility to maintain it in the most environmentally benign way.
Thanks for letting me spew. No offense meant.

Very valid points raised gardenwiseguy. I had misgivings about the advert at the end of the video also but I thought as it was at the end people could turn off before the hard sell.
I liked the simple direction on how to use choose fertilizer and when to use it. I agree organic fertilizers should play a prominent role in the garden, much more so than manufactured fertilizer.
I have created a new post that uses a ad free, community driven video to succinctly explain how to create and use composted earth to help your plants thrive.
Lawns are another topic all together. Water conservation is important in locations all over the world, more so than others. Here in the UK a Lawn, unless it is a very hot summer, will water itself. Using water butts to collect rainwater is a very useful tool to make sure we conserve and utilize our natural bounty sensibly. Profligate usage of water for vanities sake is just plain wrong.
